How I Destress After a Long Day at Work
As a pro hair and makeup artist, I know all too well the feeling of coming home after a long day on set or at a client's house. It can be seriously draining to be constantly in "on" mode, making sure everyone looks their best and that every little detail is perfect. By the time I get home, the last thing I want to do is think about work or beauty.
So, how do I destress after a long day at work? Here are my go-to methods:
Take a hot shower or bath. There's something about the warm water and steam that just melts away all the tension in my body. I like to light a few candles and put on some relaxing music to really set the mood.
Treat myself to a little "me time." This could mean painting my nails, doing a face mask, or even just curling up with a good book. It's important to remember that it's okay to take a break and focus on yourself every once in a while.
Get active. I find that getting in a good workout, whether it's a jog on the beach or if Iām lucky, paddling out to surf, helps clear my mind and reduce stress. Plus, it's a great way to burn off any leftover energy from a long day.
Have a glass of wine (or two). Hey, we all have our vices. For me, unwinding with a glass (or two) of wine at the end of the day is a tried and true method of destressing. Just remember to drink responsibly!
Get some z's. There's nothing like a good night's sleep to help reset the mind and body. I try to get in bed at a decent hour so I can get my beauty rest and wake up feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the next day.
Ultimately, the key to destressing after a long day at work is finding what works for you and making time for it. Whether it's a hot bath, a workout, or just a glass of wine, make sure to carve out some "you" time and give yourself permission to relax and recharge.
